First Wine Hotel in Uruguay: My Suites PDF Print E-mail

Montevideo will have the first theme hotel in the country dedicated to Uruguayan wines

 



At a press conference held in the Ministry of Tourism and Sports it was announced the forthcoming opening of My Suites Montevideo, a boutique hotel dedicated to the Uruguayan wine. The establishment is an addition to the offer in a branch of tourism, the wine tourism, which is clearly growing in the country. Ten exporting wineries support this venture.

The press conference took place on Thursday, March 24 in the Horacio Arredondo Room in the Ministry of Tourism and Sports with the presence of the Deputy Minister Liliam Kechichián; Dr. Antonio Carámbula, General Director of the Ministry; Claudio Quintana, Director of the Tourism Division of the Municipality of Montevideo; Orlando Scasso, Director of Tourism Development of the Municipality of Canelones; and Patricia Herszlikowicz -Director- and Mónica Rossi -General Manager- of My Suites Montevideo.

Many authorities of institutions such as Hotel and Restaurant Association of Uruguay (AHRU), Wines of Uruguay, Uruguayan Wine Tourism Association, the Uruguayan Association of Professional Sommeliers, Circle of Journalists of Tourism of Uruguay (CIPETUR) and officers of various divisions of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. There were present also the directors of Rener, the building company, with the architects responsible for the design and construction of the hotel as well as representatives of the wineries that support this endeavor.

My Suites Montevideo required an investment of four million dollars of fully Uruguayan capital. It is located in the elegant neighborhood of Pocitos, a few meters away from the Rambla (coast road), on No. 674 Juan Benito Blanco St., between Francisco Solano Antuña and 21 de Septiembre.

The main attraction will be the wine, belonging to these wineries: Ariano Hermanos, Marichal, Castillo Viejo, Establecimientos Vitivinícolas Dante Irurtia, Giménez Méndez, Grupo Traversa, Juan Toscanini e Hijos, Los Cerros de San Juan, Vinos Finos H. Stagnari y Viña Varela Zarranz, all proud to be the Uruguayan wine ambassadors abroad, elected after the advice of Sommelier Gastón Figún.

The General Manager of the hotel is Mónica Rossi, an experienced professional in wine tourism in our country through previous ventures, and other similar works abroad.

My Suites Montevideo has forty exclusive rooms of 40 m2, distributed in ten stories, each of which is dedicated to a winery. In the minibar of each room there will be wines from each winery, as well as information about it, and an invitation to take a tour around it.

The hotel will include a Wine Boutique, specially designed and climatized for exhibition and sale of wines and merchandising from the wineries. There will be a space for tastings guided by a sommelier, for guests who wish to learn about the benefits of wine, paired with regional snacks. This service will be at no extra cost.

A Wine Bar will allow guests to extend the experience and taste wines by the glass with some basic pairings suggested, always after the professional advice of a sommelier. It is expected that the Wine Bar, which will only offer Uruguayan wines, will open its doors also to the general public by reservation and registration for safety reasons.

Finally, My Suites Montevideo will have all the comforts and services of a modern hotel: WiFi, LCD HD, DVD on demand, swimming pool and panoramic solarium on the top floor, sauna & gym, and a long list of etceteras to meet the requirements of the most demanding customers.
