Gastronomy
in Uruguay has a strong European influence, particularly from Spain and Italy.
This is due to the fact that most of our ancestors came from those countries.
The fact that this is a country that is next to the sea has made it possible
for our local cuisine to create interesting dishes based on different species
of fish. In spite of this, the strong production of excellent quality beef cattle
has placed red meat dishes in the first position among the typical Uruguayan
meals. Our “asado de tira”* makes an excellent match with the great
Uruguayan Tannat wines.
Preferences in our family vary among pasta and roasted meat, but none of us
can resist the temptations of Grandma Teresita´s culinary delights.
